Shepard Fairey interviews Banksy for Swindle magazine

Banksy and Shepard Fairey

“One of the most inappropriate nicknames of all time, at least in my opinion, belonged to Ronald Reagan: “The Great Communicator,” who we’ve come to learn did a pretty shitty job of communicating the government’s problems and indiscretions. A nickname like that deserves a more righteous, honest owner—someone like BANKSY.”

D*Face said No to being a Banker or a Mechanic

Beautiful Losers Trailer

Beautiful Losers celebrates the creative spirit behind one of the most influential cultural movements of a generation. In the early 1990′s a loose-knit group of likeminded outsiders found common ground at a little NYC storefront gallery.”

The documentary explores the history, motivations and aspirations of a generation of influential contemporary and street artists whose unified creativity was born from subcultures of the early 90′s. With their movement influencing pop culture the film also importantly compares the “intent” of the artists, from Shepherd Fairey’s global Obey brand to several of them being given $1000 a day to work be themselves in Japan.

The Beautiful Losers DVD is out later this month. If you can’t wait for the DVD then pop down to the ICA, they’ll be showing it until the 24th August.

INSA x NIKE Exhibition | Something for the Weekend

In 7 days INSA ran east London, painting 35 pieces along Charlie Dark’s map for The IAM1 Journey Nike Sportswear project. Produced by Protein and documented by INSA’s long time collaborator, photographer Ethel, each of the 35 hand painted pieces form one of the centre pieces of INSAs major London solo show for 2009. This IAM1 Journey animation will be deconstructed within the “Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places” show with behind-the-scenes processes alongside the original painted objects that make up the individual frames.

Show details over the jump.

Posterboy NYC Video

Poster Boy began as one man cutting up and rearranging posters in the subways of New York. Now the original artist describes Poster Boy as a “movement” that anyone can be part of and “a social thing, as opposed to being an artist making things for bored rich people to hang above their couch.”.

Some dodgy youth television editing in this video, but the content brings a nice insight into the philosophy behind Poster Boy.

More Poster Boy.
