Street Fest 24 May ‘09 Review

Streetfest flyer

Street Fest promised to be a “new breed of festival… promoting and merging creative talents”. It did exactly that by putting skaters, artists, fashion designers and a surprisingly loud sound system all under one roof, producing an aura of creativity rooted in true Hip Hop culture.

Secret Wars | Art Battle | London

secret-wars-01

Secret Wars has taken live art global. The competition places two artists infront of a 20ft white wall. Arming them with only creativity and black paint (no pencils or sketches allowed) the artists have 90 minutes to apply their inventive flair onto the wall.  No themes or directions are given but artists are encouraged to woo the crowds and intimidate their opponents. Like in any MC, DJ or dance battle, key criteria are originality, style, context and improvisation. Boasting their talent contestants must win over two judges with a decisive decibel reading from the supporting crowd to seal the deal.

Check over the jump for more images of the London semi-finals held in Shoreditch, plus details on where to see the London finals.

Banksy’s Village Petstore & Charcoal Grill

Last October while New Yorkers were being consumed by the stock market meltdown, a tiny little pet store quietly opened in the West Village of New York City. Not just any pet store, this store housed some fantastic mechanical gadgetry. The space contained no graffiti or paintings, so it may be somewhat of a surprise when we tell you it was actually the creation of the infamous Banksy. A pleasent expression of the street artist’s creativy when working with a different medium.
