David Vincent Reep, who goes by the pseudonym Elephant & Castle, put together a sublime mix for M.A.H.’s Xfm show. His ethos, “Anything emotion-based is usually my favourite kind of music” really can be heard in his selection. Having lived in Colorado, Texas, London and California, his influences are the likes of DJ Shadow, Flying Lotus and Burial. One to keep an ear out for will be his debut LP Transitions slated to be released on Plug Research in 2012.

Pushing on from his Greater Lengths album back in 1999, Martyn’s second project maintains a refreshingly diverse exploration of music at 140 bpm. The Holland-born/Washington DC-based artist connects the dots from London’s bumpy garage to the mechanical grooves of Detroit, whilst holding a nostalgic sentinment that runs throughout as he titles the LP, Ghost People.
“A lot of the music and the themes behind [Great Lengths] were taken out of my daily life: my sorrows and my melancholy,” he says. “For this album, I chose things that are further away from me: the Ghost People theme. There are references to DJing in general. Not the jet-set DJ life, but the old Paradise Garage DJ life, where people want to share and play the music they really love, regardless of if it’s trendy. Nothing fancy or flashy. Just back to the roots.”
Brainfeeder will release Ghost People on October 10th, 2011.

Kahn has been seeing a fair amount of recognition after dropping a 12″ on Peverelist’s Punch Drunk label last month. Part of the Bristol sound alongside names such as Gemmy, Superisk and Vessel, he makes up a valued part of the Sure Skank collective. This dance-floor focused tracklist covers quite a but of ground and showcases Kahn’s versatility within the 140 spectrum. Read more about him in Sonic Router’s interview.
Mount Kimbie are feeling generous, giving away a free digital download for you to enjoy. Baves Chords is the last release from their debut Crooks And Lovers album project released last year. If this ain’t enough of a fix then Mount Kimbie are also headlining Heaven this Friday (supported by Becoming Real, CREEP and Sampha). More details over in the Mount Kimbie (Live) @ HEAVEN event.
We’ve seen a few producers get in the festive spirit by giving away a few tracks and mixes. Skream has gone one better and released a 13 track album for free! A nice mix of sounds that will keep you locked from start to finish.
Skream includes this note:

We interviewed quite a few people a while back for our What Is Music? project, Tasha being one of them. More widely known to play drum and bass, we asked her to drop down the BPM for an influences mix. She rose to the challenge and sent us back this mix with tracks she’s feeling at the moment outside of her usual selection. Who remembers the last one?
Berkane Sol headman, Geiom, has put together a nice selection of Funky and UK G for Planet Mu. Especially nice to hear Sunship make the tracklist, it’s been awhile!
A group of animatronics designers have made peices to inhabit a one-off event in Corsica Studios. These scaringly lifelike robots have been programmed to move in perfect sync to tracks provided by the likes of Starkey, Untold and Kryptic Minds. To add to this visionary world of sound, live footage will be edited in real-time and projected around the venue.
Jakes has been busy in the studio producing and recording his latest mix entitled HENCH Mixtape Vol. 1.
